Silk/Merino is a blend of tussah silk and White Gum Wool superfine merino (17 micron). It is one the finest knitting yarns available today and can be worn next to the skin. It's a bulky 5-ply, due to the high loft of White Gum Wool fibre. The golden tussah silk makes the Natural colour a cream rather than a pure white. The different dye responses of the two fibres result in a subtle heathered look in all the other colours.
White Gum Wool sheep are raised on a single farm, in the high midlands of Tasmania, Australia. They have never been mulesed and graze in mostly native pastures where they can find the plants they need to keep healthy. The abundant, diverse landscapes are healthy, too. No herbicides, fertilisers, pesticides or fungicides are used in growing White Gum Wool.
All White Gum Wool yarns are dyed using low impact metal free dyes.
NewMerino® Chain of Custody certifies the sustainability and traceability of the yarn. So when you buy White Gum Wool, you are making a choice that honours the landscape, animals and people who make it possible.
