Hemp for Knitting Allhemp6 are long line wetspun yarns in vibrant colours and they provide outstanding drape and longevity similar to linen. They are dyed using reactive dyes and are mercerized for colour fastness and ultimate softness and sheen.
Ultimate in strength with the drape and lustre unique to hemp, this is our most versatile yarn. Cool in the summer, warm in the winter and superb to knit with! Allhemp6 is quintessential for year-round wear.
Why use hemp?
Hemp is environmentally friendly as hemp production needs no herbicides or pesticides, has low water requirements, produces 2 – 4 times more fibre per area than other sources and maintains a healthy microbial life in the soil. Hemp is naturally resistant to damp, mould, bacteria, moths and silverfish.
Tips to soften hemp:
Hemp will soften by regular washing and drying. It will not shrink, stretch, fade or pill, and will only get softer after each wash. If you find the Allhemp yarns stiff to work with, soak the 100% hemp hank in hot water and hair conditioner, air dry and wind into a ball. Knit away!
