Iskay is 100% natural yarn, botanically dyed by the skilled hands of women artisans in the remote Sacred Valley of Cusco using locally sourced exotic plant materials only known to the mountainous regions of Peru.

FREE KNITTING PATTERN with every Iskay purchase. Pattern is Carmen’s Fingerless Gloves (see last picture) by Tessa Ranish-O’Donnell. It requires 1 skein of Iskay and 2.75mm (US #2) dpns or circular needles.

Qhapaq Elderberry and Ayar Orchid are dyed with Th'iri flowers.

Toasted Trigo is dyed with Nogal (Andean walnut).

Aqlla Blush is dyed with Chapi plant.

Fiery Aji and Salktantay Sunrise are dyed with kaka sunkha moss.

Golden Chicha is dyed with Q'olle flowers.

Huacatay Mint and Neblina are dyed with kinsa kunchu leaves.

Part of the beauty of natural dyes is their variation, creating unique skeins even within the same bath. We recommend you alternate skeins when knitting or crocheting and purchase enough for your project.

Pichinku's baby alpaca base yarn is from Michell and Cia in Arequipa, Peru. Their production is ethical, down to their fiber being hand-sorted (no machines) by micron quality and sourced from traditional alpaca herding families in the high Andes. Michell has also provided employment to hundreds of Peruvian employees for 80+ years and made genetic research advancements that will keep the alpaca industry alive in Peru.

Caring for your Pichinku
Natural dyes fade beautifully with time and may run a bit when washed but will retain their vibrancy with proper care. We recommend gently washing in lukewarm water with a tiny amount of mild detergent and laying flat to dry.
