EcoOrganic Cotton

My pet project for some 18 months in 07-08 has been the EcoOrganic Cotton.

19 Native Peruvian plant dyed and 1 Undyed 100% Certified Organic Cotton yarn, developed to provide a choice of colours in Organic Cotton for the yarn connoisseur.

100% Certified Organic and Fair Trade tanguis cotton, hand dyed using Traditional Methods with plants.
Certified by SKAL, pending application approval for Fair Trade.

We searched for the most environmentally sound production of organic cotton and opted to use Plant Dyes.
With this product, you are helping to revive ancestral techniques of hand spinning and hand dyeing of the Peruvian dyers, especially of the Paracas Culture.

By buying this product, you are contributing to the welfare of the women (and their families), who work to bring you this product. The women often come from the poorest localities in Lima, they are given Fair Trade conditions and a litre of milk per day that they work. The money that they make helps their children obtain an education.

Each skein is 100g and approx 180m.

Tension is 21st and 26 rows to 10 cm square on 4mm needles. (Australian standard 8 ply)
